While more modes would be nice to see, along with larger matches (like 4v4), so far, Rocket League Sideswipe is off to a good start. I would never have imagined a mobile version of Rocket League would ever turn out this good, so props to Psyonix. So to be able to jump to Sideswipe without missing a beat sure feels pretty great. I'm a diehard Rocket League player on PC, and I play at 144FPS at 1440p every single night. Still, as of right now, the game contains zero monetization, making this the best time to jump in.įrankly, I'm surprised I enjoy Rocket League Sideswipe as much as I do. Clearly, these are the bones of what's to come, so I would imagine a cash shop will arrive in the future. As you would expect, the in-game currency can be used to purchase cosmetics for your vehicle, and there is a Rocket Pass where you'll earn extra rewards by playing, also free. Thankfully Psyonix has yet to monetize Rocket League Sideswipe, so even though there are loot boxes and an in-game currency, you can only earn this content through gameplay.
So no matter if you want to play on a low-end tablet or a high-end phone, you should be able to find the settings that work best for your use case.
Heck, the game offers its own FPS counter, so you can easily dial in your settings for the best performance. You can even reduce your frames in the menus to conserve battery life. The graphic presets offer three options, Low, Medium, and High, with a maximum 60FPS framerate. The cars look crisp and clean, without any noticeable jaggies. When it comes to the graphics, I'm not seeing much of a difference from the alpha.
RELEASE A NEAR PERFECT GAME GAME CORP DX PC
Best of all, the controls are just as tight as the full-fledged console and PC game. Keep in mind controllers don't function in the menus, but once you're in a match, everything works as expected. However, a controller adds so much more precision to your gameplay that it's easily my preferred way to play. The touch controls are plenty serviceable, and they are extremely customizable, so if you are going to use them, you can change the button sizes and positions to suit your grip better. This is why I was delighted to see controller support in the official release this week.

Once you play through a few different ball-hitting scenarios, you're free to jump into the game's practice and multiplayer modes.ĭuring the alpha, I did test multiple controllers and they didn't work, but I heard some players were using controllers just fine, which had my interest piqued. You're quickly walked through your car's maneuvers, such as jumping, double jumping, spin, and boosting. Of course, now that the game is officially available worldwide, it's a great time to check back in and see what's different, what's the same, and reflect on where this bite-sized version of the game may be headed.Īs far as the onboarding process goes, it's the same as it was in the alpha. I have to admit that I've been enamored with Rocket League Sideswipe since I tested the alpha earlier this year.
